4. Describe the nutrient recommendations for patients across the lifespan. 5. Discuss diet planning guidelines for patients across the lifespan; and Purpose: To interpret and analyze food labels and apply the analysis to evaluate nutritive value of common food products found in the supermarket.

To analyze the risks and benefits of food items in relation to common medical diagnosis. This skill is important to aid in dietary analysis and recommendations for patient education and health promotion.

Description: Students will consider different types of food with regard to nutritional quality. Each student will discuss two commonly purchased items from a local supermarket. This analysis focuses on the nutritional profiles of Quaker Protein Banana Nut Flavor Instant Oatmeal and BUMBLE BEE® Snack On The Run! Tuna Salad Kit With Crackers. The nutritional information of each product will be documented and discussed.

Food labels will be analyzed and the risks and benefits of that food item in relation to common medical diagnoses (hypertension, diabetes, cardiac disease, adult obesity, and childhood obesity) will be applied. Various food products commonly consumed in diverse populations should be considered. Directions: Write a 5-page paper. The paper should include a title page and reference page (not counted in the 5 pages). Headings should be used to organize the paper and information must be supported and cited with evidence-based information. APA 7th edition format is required for this paper assignment. Choose two common food items found in a local supermarket. The items may be chosen from side dishes, main meals, snacks, or beverages. Provide complete nutritional information for each item from the product label or credible source for nutrient information.

You may use a table format to list this information. Analyze and discuss the nutrients in each item including the micro and macronutrients, and calories that are in the food items and compare healthy dietary recommendations to the nutrients in the item.

Describe the risks and benefits of consumption of each item in relation to chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiac disease obesity and overall health.
