Instructions assignment 1

Begin by reading “A Model for School-based Crisis Preparedness and Response” in the Additional Resources section below.
Consider the school counselor’s responsibility to develop and lead comprehensive student support systems in collaboration with the other educators on campus.  Create an infographic, Padlet, or brochure that outlines what should be included in a student’s support system and the school counselor’s role in school-based intervention.

Please include all of the following:

Identify who on a school or college campus should be part of creating a crisis intervention/preparedness plan

Identify 4-6 important components of what this crisis plan should include
The four crisis categories that crisis plans typically deal with
The roles of the crisis team members
What all you believe should be included in a student’s support system
A list of types of trauma that today’s youth are exposed to
A focused description of one type of trauma
What are you likely to observe in the student?
A list of steps that would initially be involved in the school’s response to trauma exposure
The various pieces of organization that need to be in place for trauma response

APA citations, where needed

This should be designed to communicate appropriately to all stakeholders who impact student lives (administrators, teachers, parents, districts, and outside agencies such as group homes, foster agencies, the juvenile justice system, etc.). In this module, you learned about various theories and techniques that have proven helpful with students exposed to trauma. As stated in the beginning of this course, you will add another component to your school-based intervention plan in each of the modules. Please feel free to edit content from Assignment 1, but in this assignment you need focus on the addition of theories and specific techniques that can help those students having difficulty from being exposed to trauma. You may create your intervention plan however you would like, but review the Additional Resources section below for inspiration and free design and presentation tools.

Instructions assignment 2

Research, choose, and thoroughly describe two counseling theories and specific techniques that help students who have been exposed to trauma. (Example: solution-focused theory, narrative therapy, CBT). Please add at least two theories to your school-based intervention plan. Also include the infographic you created in Assignment 1 as you begin to assemble your comprehensive school-based intervention plan (which you will submit in Signature Assignment 4). Be sure to include all of the following:
Identify two counseling theories/techniques that help students who have been exposed to trauma

Write a focused description of the two counseling theories/techniques that you chose

Explain how the two theories/techniques would be effective for students who have been exposed to trauma
APA citations, where needed
Remember: this should be designed to communicate appropriately to all stakeholders who impact student lives (administrators, teachers, parents, districts, and outside agencies such as group homes, foster agencies, juvenile justice system, etc.). Be sure to include both preparedness and response in your plan.
Instructions assignment 3

PART 1: RESEARCH AND SHARE RESOURCES

Do some exploring or research on what community resources or programs are available to those who have been exposed to any type of trauma. This exploration could include but not limited to: 1) interviewing a school counselor to see what community resources or programs they are aware or are using at their school site, 2) a literature review of successful community resources or 3) check with the NU Reference Librarian to help you conduct a search of current programs or resources.Share a list or Padlet that includes at least five resources for school counselors to utilize when counseling students during times of transition, separation, heightened stress, or other critical changes in their lives.

PART 2: ADD TO YOUR INTERVENTION PLAN

Remember that you are adding to your intervention plan each week in preparation for the Signature Assignment in Module 4. This intervention plan can be presented any way you would like, such as infographic, pamphlet, newsletter, website, etc. Review the Additional Resources section below for inspiration and free design and presentation tools. Add all of the following to your intervention plan:
All basic information needed for an initial plan, including preparedness and response
A clear explanation of trauma-informed practices (TIP)
Three resources:
The name and location of each community resource
How they specifically help with the type of trauma you are focused on in your intervention plan
Specific instructions for how to contact/utilize these resources
Remember: this should be designed to communicate appropriately to all stakeholders who impact student lives (administrators, teachers, parents, districts, and outside agencies such as group homes, foster agencies, juvenile justice system, etc.). Be sure to include both preparedness and response in your plan. Once you’ve added these resources, keep them in your plan for Module 4.

PLEASE SUBMIT TWO SEPARATE ITEMS IN THIS ASSIGNMENT:

Your list or Padlet including at least five resources
Your updated intervention plan
Instructions assignment 4
It is essential that all schools and colleges have intervention plans to help students cope with the various types of traumas they might be exposed to. Since there are a number of traumas that students might be exposed to, developing an intervention plan for these is critical. School and college counselors are often called upon to develop or be part of a team that develops intervention plans, so this signature assignment allows you to be involved in this endeavor.
