The past, present and the future. The updates and the changes that you might have seen from The Bronze Screen till now may help us understand how the contributions of Latinx artists have evolved in the U.S. and how they are being manifested today.
Discuss some of the recent films and TV shows and plays that you feel have opened up new topics or ideas of discussion.
A contrast between past and present (and future) would help us assess the progress that we see and the progress we as scholars may still assess in representation. The main questions would be: has there been progress on these issues? Yes or no. What are the examples or the evidence of that?
Examples?
A specific stereotype mentioned in the documentary The Bronze Screen and a recent film that either supports the continuation of such a stereotype or something entirely different as in a film that goes against these stereotypes and advances the image forward. There could be good examples in either direction.
Again, it’s always important to provide evidence of what you’ve seen and experienced, as in a great performance, a great script, a crucial directorial choice, an important moment in the film, TV show or play that shook you up or that left an impression, the lived experience of the specific story.
