Overview The EnviroBio Portfolio is a collection of your quiz answers and media pieces that is evidence of your achievement of course learning outcomes and an artifact you can utilize for future learning. The portfolio is due by Wednesday evening of Finals Week (week 11), 11:59 p.m. PST.

You will be assembling your quiz answers and media pieces into a final portfolio of your work. It may help to visit the portfolio pageLinks to an external site. and re-view the videos that are appearing in the modules. Once your quiz responses and media pieces are graded, add them to your portfolio. Make corrections, if necessary to demonstrate achievement of the concepts, skills, and connections in the final portfolio. Portfolio Goals There are two goals of this portfolio assignment:

Demonstrate achievement of EnviroBio’s nine course outcomesLinks to an external site.. They are also posted in a printable pdf format available on the Canvas syllabus page. Select a format that you may refer to and use in the future.

It can be a powerpoint slideshow, a written journal, an assemblage, a gallery of art pieces, a series of blogs, or whichever format you select that exhibits your work related to the nine outcomes. This format selection can occur after you have completed several quizzes and media pieces, so you can see what you have to work with.

You are selecting what you feel is your best work to represent the nine outcomes. Portfolio Contents Portfolio Components: An introduction page that explains the portfolio format you have chosen, including how it demonstrates your mastery of the course outcomes and how you may use the portfolio into the future. The introduction page is introduced as a media piece in week 10 of the course. Nine sections, one section for each of the nine learning outcomes.

The final portfolio will include 9 sections: 3 concept sections (science, general biology, Environmental Biology); 3 skills (science, general biology, Environmental Biology); and 3 connections (science, general biology, Environmental Biology). Each section presents a substantial representation (2+ examples) of your work (quiz answers, media pieces from this course, and/or other work you have completed outside of the course). At the beginning of each of the nine sections, list what the outcome is (for example “Environmental Biology Connections”) and include a few sentences describing the works you are including and why the works demonstrate achievement of that outcome.

For example: “For the Science Concepts outcome I am including examples of my work to show my achievement. First, I have my RST media piece. It shows UVW.

Typically external work is most helpful if it is necessary to understand the context of the work you have created. For example, it could be a photo taken of you doing something (credit the photographer) or a news story that you are reflecting on and responding to (provide the news webpage), or a link to website/activity you have participated in like a bird count or clean-up project. Your portfolio grade is only based on what you originally have created yourself. Hints for Success Start each of the nine sections with a sentence explaining how your included works shows your achievement of the topic.

Your introduction sentences will vary depending on the work you include in the portfolio. Build a body of works (quiz responses and/or media pieces) for each of the nine sections. A good way to get a feel of if your work is substantial, and will convince someone else of this, is are you able to explain how each sample of work shows your mastery of the topic. If you can not easily do this, maybe some more (or different) work is needed.

If you were presenting a ppt lecture, you would not present to an audience and have imbedded urls you need to click to get to what you wanted to present. Each of your original media assignment and original quiz answer can only be used once in your portfolio. Your portfolio is not to be a set of new works or a summary/description (=the caption) of your works or other people’s works.

This is to be a curation of your full=complete actual works already completed this term. A few works and experiences from outside BI 101 can be included, but the vast majority of your curated and included work should be from BI 101-EnviroBio, and ALL should relate to the content covered in BI 101. If you made a physical journal/scrapbook/portfolio (great) – You might consider submitting; a narrated video walk-through explaining each page OR take pictures of each page and build a slideshow to upload to Canvas. There are many different ways to successfully complete this portfolio. Make sure you fill your original work into each section.

If you would like to refer to another source, provide a citation. Only your original work is included in the Portfolio grade. We recommend for each outcome a minimum of: – A description of what the specific Learning Outcome you are addressing for each work included. – Your explanation of what your work is and how it shows you achievement of that outcome. – A minimum of two examples of your work (often 2+ are need to be “substantial,” multiple media pieces and/or quiz answers) for each outcome. – We recommend trying to include multiple types of work in your portfolio (i.e. don’t just use text, use text, captioned pictures, sketches, quiz responses, etc. –

You are the expert on your work. Compare your work to the Rubric and judge if it meets the criteria. If “no” adjust your work, if “yes”, justify this in your explanation. Do not leave it to your audience to interpret and make judgment, tell us. Your portfolio is your portfolio of work showing your achievements, so you can certainly use some works and experiences from outside BI 101.

However, a majority of your curated and included work should be from BI 101, and ALL included work should relate to the content (Learning Outcomes) covered in BI 101. There are many different ways to successfully complete this portfolio. Make sure you fill your original work into each section. If you would like to refer to another source, provide a citation.

Only your original work is included in the Portfolio grade. We will not pre-grade a portfolio, but if you have any questions, you can ask if you have questions and get the portfolio completed week 10. Do NOT hyperlink your assignments into your file (this is fine in an HTML file type = website or Prezi).

Your document/file/slideshow should stand on its own without linking to external content. Hyperlinks break, are typically linked to your local files, and take your viewers a significant amount of time to trace,
