Overview

Imagine you are a behavior analyst who has been asked to complete a comprehensive evaluation to make global recommendations for one of the individuals in the Cast of Characters media piece. For this assignment, you will write an email to your supervisor analyzing different areas of consideration prior to conducting the assessment.

Preparation
To prepare for this assignment, complete the following:

Choose one of the individuals you haven’t worked with before in the Cast of Characters media piece. You will use this individual as a basis for this assignment.

Instructions
Part 1: Email
A new client is coming into your office for the first time, and you want to know more about them. Write an email to a supervisor or colleague explaining the following topics.

Client Information

Select and describe the top two or three most important pieces of information you want to know more about to practice cultural humility and recognize potential bias. Explain to your supervisor why you chose them.

For example:

Pronouns.
Gender identity.
Living situation.
Guardian situation.
SES.
Language.
Cultural background/identity.
Religious background/identity.
Health information.
Refer to Chapter 12 in the textbook reading Week 4: Incorporating GoalsLinks to an external site., which describe the behaviors you will engage in to practice cultural humility.

Target Areas

Explain the first two areas you would choose to target for assessment for behaviors to increase and/or decrease. For example, areas could include communication, social, leisure, vocation, academic, daily living, or relationships. Why did you choose these areas? Justify your choices based on the unique characteristics of the individual you chose with support from the literature.

Assessments

Based on the areas you chose; identify one or two assessment tools you would use and explain why you chose them. Justify your choices based on the literature and some of the cultural considerations you identified.

Self-Advocacy

Describe how the client demonstrates consent or assent. List at least three different ways you will involve the client in decision making throughout the assessment process. Justify your decisions based on the unique characteristics of the individual you chose and support from the literature.

Part 2: Self-Reflection
Write a brief self-reflection related to the process of researching and writing this assignment. Consider your thoughts and feeling about individual differences and culture as they came up for you as you completed this assignment. How will completing this assignment potentially impact your work? Please disclose only what feels comfortable regarding your reflective practice. You may share the feelings that came up in your reflection if you wish, but this is not required, and you can instead describe your process of reflecting more generally.
