This prompt, in addition to the “Position Argument,” “Proposal Argument,” “Opposition,” “Position Argument Template,” and “Proposal Argument Template” Pages, will serve as the guidelines for the second essay for this class.
In the second essay for this class, students will be expected to choose to write a Position Argument on American Dream, Space Exploration, or Gentrification
OR a Proposal Argument on Income Inequality, Healthcare Disparities, or Opioid Addiction. In terms of essay structure, you will want to make use of the “Argument
Template” Pages in this Module.
In addition to the Pages mentioned above, would like to point out that that 9th, 10th, and 11th Modules have been filled with the pieces of argument. In these three Modules, assertions, evidence, assumptions, opposition, and position and proposal structures have been covered; all of this information is crucial to writing the argument.
Remember that you are choosing which shape and then which topic within that shape you are going to use for your argument.
Remember to revisit Discussion Boards 5, 6, 9, 10, or 11 (depending on your essay choice) to use and/or revise your thesis and topic sentences.
Instructions:
To begin this assignment, compose your Essay 2 by addressing the following requirements:
Choose a shape } Position or Proposal Argument.
Choose a topic} American Dream, Space Exploration, Gentrification for Position OR Income Inequality, Healthcare Disparities, or Opioid Addiction for Proposal.
Revisit the Page that details your shape prior to writing the essay as the Pages give you instructions to complete the assignment.
Write a Thesis Statement that states a stance (Position) or offers a solution (Proposal).
Offer clear, fully-developed body paragraphs, making sure that compelling and convincing evidence is used.
Acknowledge the opposition and address it via refutation or concession.
Make use of transitionsActions.
Ensure that all borrowed material, quotes and summaries, from the source essays or outside sources is parenthetically cited to avoid plagiarism.
Offer bibliographic citations for any material you choose to use (it is not required that you use any) in the Works Cited at the end of the paper.
